Addition to 1-1/2 Story Home        Previous          Next

A family with young children needed to expand their living space beyond that existing in this quaint 1-1/2 story home. They liked the neighborhood so they decided to add onto the existing home.

Their needs included a main floor family room, expanded kitchen with pantry, mudroom, 1/2 bath and a second floor owner's suite. The existing detached garage was to be replaced.

The design challenges presented included:

• Designing the new spaces to fit with the existing structure and style.
• Fitting all the functions into a footprint limited by city ordinances.
• Design roof to integrate with existing second story shed dormer in rear.

The client had selected a builder and we were added to the team to provide all the preliminary design including floor plans, elevations and renderings of the interior and exterior.

Once the preliminary design was approved by the client we produced final construction drawings. Meetings with the builder were held to insure all details he needed were included.
